Emile JUMEAU

"Brown-eyed Automata"
Emile JUMEAU (1842-99)

Jumeau was a leading workshop of the golden age of bisque dolls in France. The term "bisque" refers to a method of pottery to produce the texture of human skin, by firing porcelain twice after painted on the unglazed surface.
In 1845, la maison Jumeau was established by Pierre Jumeau and its business was succeeded by son Emile, and created many dolls. Pierre received the prize for the "costume design of dolls" at the first world fair in London in 1951. Emile had a remarkable talent for business as well, got a large number of patents and left permanent achievements in the doll industry. Automata is a doll with a music device inside. Jumeau dolls were created until 1899.
