The special exhibition
Spring in full bloom - A stroll beneath the cherry blossoms
March 20 [Fri]-May 17 [Sun] 2020
YOKOYAMA Taikan, Japanese Spirit 1944, private collection |
The cherry blossom symbolizes spring in Japan and is deeply rooted in Japanese culture, as well as in people's lives, through painting, literature and so forth. The exhibition focuses on artworks representing cherry blossoms, including works by Japanese painting (Nihonga) artists such as WATANABE Seitei, YOKOYAMA Taikan, and NAKAJIMA Chinami, alongside works by Western-style painting (Yoga) master FUJISHIMA Takeji, and ENDO Akiko, a leading artist of the current Western style art circle in Japan. Whether in full bloom or scattered by the breeze, cherry blossoms are extremely beautiful yet mysterious. We hope you will all enjoy this banquet of cherry blossoms, each uniquely represented through the lens of this group of Nihonga and Yoga artists.
