The special exhibition
Hommage! Parody!! Artists are taken with Masterpieces
May 23 [Sat] - July 19 [Sun] 2020
Hiroki YAMAMOTO, A Lady Writing, 2012, private collection |
Rin YAMASHITA, who went alone to Russia in the Meiji period, improved her painting skills through copying masterpieces, and devoted herself to create the Christian paintings. The female figure copied by Rey CAMOY, who sketched around the people around the South America and European countries, overlaps with his late work.
Painters create their pieces by leaning from masterpieces and reflect those leanings on their works. This exhibition begins with the copies from pre-existing paintings, introduces the works inspired by paintings, literature, and music to explore the origins of such works.
