Marie Laurencin × Yumeji Takehisa, girls' dreams are avant-garde

Yumeji Takehisa held sway for his paintings of dreamy girl during the Taisho era. Marie Laurencin drew elegant female figures in pastel colors in Paris around 1920s. The works of both look colorful and delicate to our eyes, however, they were a kind of avant-garde art at their time. Marie Laurencin shows mild color palettes but introduced together with the works of Fauvisme and Expressionism in Japan. TAKEHISA Yumeji was also under the influence of the German avant-garde. The exhibition will explore the relationship between the early 20th century avant-garde art and the works of Yumeji and Laurencin. You may find the works that challenges against the movement of the societies and art circles during the World War.
