Tsuguharu FOUJITA: from Paris to Villiers-le-Bacle. Commemorating the 55th Anniversary of his Death

September 30[Tue]-December 17[Sun], 2023

Marking the 55th anniversary of Tsuguharu Foujita's passing, 2023 also coincides with the 110th anniversary of the artist's first visit toFrance. Since his arrival in 1913, Foujita had made steady progress as a painter and in the 1920s he established his signature "milky-white skin" painting, making a name for himself as the darling of the Ecole de Paris. After the war, Foujita was naturalized as a French citizen and changed his name to Leonard Foujita. The exhibition will focus on Foujita's work in France, featuring pieces from museum and private collections in Japan, such as the Hirano Masakichi Collection, which is known for its vast collection of Foujita's masterpieces. The exhibition will also introduce Foujita's activity at his Villiers-le-Bacle's studio displaying related images thanks to a collaboration between the Ibaraki Prefecture and the department of Essonne.
