The Truth Captured by the Paintbrush, The World Explored through the Lens - Searching for the Own Expression: Painting and Photography
January 2[Tue]-March 10[Sun], 2024
Yuichi TAKAHASHI chose the familiar motif of "salmon" to convey the realism of Western painting to a large number of Japanese people. Even today, artists such as MORIMOTO Sosuke, OGISO Makoto, and SUYAMA Mitsuru pursue realism and produce precise paintings. On the 130th anniversary of Yuiichi's death, this exhibition focuses on these realistic painters and other artists' pursuit of original expression. Salvador Dali depicted a surreal world with a realistic view of his subject, while Roy Lichtenstein, one of most famous pop artists, enlarged a single comic strip to depict even the dots of ink in the printing. The exhibition also features works by Vik Muniz, an artist who uses photography to explore new possibilities, as well as photographs by EBIHARA Yutaka, who is active mainly in advertising photography, and OSONO Hisao, who has attracted attention for his work on TV programs and drone images.
