July 22 [Thu.] - September 26 [Sun] 2021

Sho SAITO, Don't Bother, 2021

Cray-pas (oil pastel), everyone once touched as a child, was invented first in Japan as a new drawing material for Western paintings in 1925 (Taisho 14). It has a emphasized image as a painting material for children, on the other hand, it enables various expression depending on how it is used. Painters have tried various painting techniques using the familiar material, such as rubbing painting with finger or cloths to blur, many times over to paint, multiple colors to achieve the depth perception and scratch techniques scraping the surface. In this exhibition, we exhibit Cray-pas paintings by the Japanese masters who represent the western art world, through the young up and coming artists, furthermore, pastel paintings to introduce the different features from Cray-pas paintings. We bring together for your enjoyment in this unique exhibition.
